About Us

  • MISSION

“No matter how well-intentioned care is, how tissue integrity is
    protected tells all.”

  • At Phil-e-Slide we believe that every patient who is confined to bed deserves an environment in which they can receive the care they need without the worry of having tissue viability issues (commonly known as pressure sores or tissue damage). Likewise, nurses and carers (whether family members or social care workers) want a system that is easy and intuitive to use and that avoids the risk of soft tissue harm and musculoskeletal injuries whilst providing care to their patient, client or loved one.

That’s why we developed the Biotechsis® inbed care system range of products and have hand-picked a complementary range of patient positioning aids for in and out-of-bed care.

PHIL STRONG
RNMH, RGN RCNT, RNT
"I started my working life in Engineering before gaining extensive experience in nursing people of all ages, with both acute and chronic conditions. I later worked as a Clinical Nurse Teacher before moving into research-based teaching attached to a university while also studying Ergonomics at UCL.
The combination of both 20 years of experience in healthcare along with my Engineering skills were essential components in building my business and developing and refining the products we have on our present Phil-e-Slide range.
Our Philosophy has always been to take a systems thinking approach to design which addresses the difficulties when moving clients safely, whilst also protecting the carer(s) from harm."
ANNE STRONG
RNMH, RGN, BSc (Hons) Midwifery, SCPHN
"I have had 25+ years of experience working in the healthcare sector. I have previously worked with people with varying degrees of physical and learning needs, clients with acute illnesses and age-related conditions. I also worked in different community settings and as a Tissue Viability research nurse.
Myself and Phil have used our previous experience and knowledge to develop and expand our range of products to help both carer(s) and clients in all types of care settings, with safe movement whilst also preventing tissue harm.
We are both committed to working closely with colleagues in the Healthcare and private sector to continue to innovate and transform the way clients are moved safely whilst maintaining skin and tissue integrity."

Our History

Founded in 1994, Phil-e-Slide is the trading name of Ergo Ike Ltd. and home to Biotechsis® - the inbed care system that protects soft tissue harm of both clients/ patients and their carer(s).

The Biotechsis® range was designed and developed by Phil Strong, a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of care practice including Advanced Trauma Life Support field experience, and his partner, Anne, who has over 30 years of nursing experience.

Their premise was simple: to find solutions that both prevents tissue harm in people confined to bed and musculoskeletal injuries to the people caring for them

Initially sourcing the best in patient positioning aids, they began to develop the Biotechsis® inbed care system using practice-based evidence and the latest research into the causes of tissue harm (aka as pressure sores, tissue damage). They continue to work with world-renowned wound biologists to further develop the healthcare industry’s understanding of what happens under the skin of both patients and carer(s) during inbed care, and use that knowledge to develop the tissue viability protecting system.

All items in the Biotechsis® inbed care system have been designed to simulate and complement the body’s own natural system for avoiding soft tissue harm from stiction, friction, shear and the distortion of tissue. They are also innovative and intuitive, thereby solving everyday problems whilst being easy to use correctly, each and every time.

Sustainability
  • A sustainable solution

Our commitment to using sustainable materials and practices helps to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the healthcare industry through a circular approach.

  • Recyclable materials

Materials used in our product are recyclable, making them an environmentally friendly option.

  • Reduced medical waste

By reducing the number of injuries, Phil-e-Slide is also helping to decrease the amount of medical waste that is generated from treating such injuries.

Our products not only improve the quality of life for patients and caregivers but are also a sustainable solution for the healthcare industry. The product's innovative design aims to reduce the need for unsafe client/ patient handling/ heavy lifting, which is a common cause of care practice harm and work-related injuries in the healthcare sector. By preventing harm and injuries, Phil-e-Slide is also helping to decrease the amount of medical waste that is generated from treating such injuries. This, in turn, leads to a more sustainable healthcare system by reducing the amount of waste that is produced.

Moreover, the Phil-e-Slide range is made from durable and long-lasting materials that are easy to clean and maintain. This means that the product has a longer lifespan and requires less frequent replacement, reducing the amount of waste replacement generated from disposal. Additionally, the materials used in the product are recyclable, making them an environmentally friendly option. Our commitment to using sustainable materials and practices also helps to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the healthcare industry.

Biotechsis®

The Biotechsis range is designed to replace conventional cotton bed sheets which can cause stiction and friction (as repeated movement without the ability to slide can cause sheer and tissue harm). Instead, its synergetic layers create an environment that simulates and complements the body’s own natural system for avoiding avoiding soft tissue harm.
